Uniform
Uniform
All students are required to present themselves to school wearing full uniform smartly and correctly. Students are expected to wear their correct uniform correctly when travelling to school and home from school. We have high expectations of our students, and every student is expected to meet our high standards of dress and personal appearance.
Our uniform policy is designed to acknowledge both the religious and cultural differences in our school community. We recognise that adjectives such as ‘neat’ may have a cultural bias. However, we seek to prepare children for the workplace and adopt conventional British social approaches to appearance and presentation.
ECS Uniform consists of:
- Navy blazer with the school badge. This is worn throughout the school day.
- Plain white collared shirt.
- A tie to be worn with the top button of the shirt done up
- Black tailored trousers or the school kilt. The kilt should be no shorter than knee length.
- If the kilt is worn, then skin coloured or black tights or black socks should be worn.
- Black socks
- Plain, smart, black shoes. No sport shoes, trainers, high heels or boots are permitted.
- Student lanyard with ID in good condition with the image clearly visible, worn around the neck. These are provided by school and must be worn at all times in school. They must not be defaced or broken in any way. If lost, then they must be replaced without delay.
- A plain outdoor coat in navy blue or black. This can be worn in addition to the blazer – but not instead of it. Coats are for outdoor wear only and students must not wear their coats inside the building, moving from one lesson to the next. Any scarves or gloves worn in winter must also be plain navy blue or black.
- Religious head coverings (for example the hijab, the taqiyya, the kippa) are permitted and must be plain blue or black. In the summer a plain white is allowed. The face must be visible at all times.
In addition:
- A plain, navy blue, V neck jumper can be worn in addition to a blazer, underneath. However, a jumper must never be worn instead of a blazer.
- In hot weather, students will be given the option to carry their blazer rather than wear it; otherwise, it must be worn at all times inside the school building.
- If a belt is worn, it must be plain blue or black and have a plain buckle.
- Jeans, jeggings or tight-fitting trousers are not permitted.
- Sweatshirts, t-shirts and hoodies are not part of school uniform and must not be worn.
- Any additional sports equipment, such as footballs, must be carried in a suitable bag.
- Students in year 10 and 11 may wear only limited make up (i.e., foundation and mascara, but not false eyelashes, eyeshadows, blusher, lipstick etc).
- Long/false nails or any coloured nail varnish is not permitted at all.
- Students may wear one ear stud in each lobe. No other jewellery is permitted; this includes facial piercings. If students are seen with more than one stud in each lobe, they will be asked to remove any additional piercing and it will be confiscated.
- Head wear/scarves should not be worn in school unless for religious reasons.
- Long hair should be tied back using navy or black hair accessories.
- Hair (including facial hair) should be kept smart; no extreme hair styles are permitted; this includes tram lines in hair, undercuts that are shorter than a number one cut and any skin fades. Tram lines in eyebrows are not permitted.
- We are guided by the Halo Code and recognise that Afro-textured hair requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. Afro-textured hair may be worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps, as long as they are in line with school colours. This does not include durags or bonnets which are not appropriate in school. Hair should be of natural colours. Any beads should be navy blue or black.
- Students may wear a digital or analogue watch (but not an Apple Watch or similar) but mobile phones and electronic equipment must not be seen nor heard in school. If a phone is seen in school, it will be confiscated. (see mobile phone policy)
- The school accepts no liability for loss or damage to any valuables that a student brings to school.
- The Executive Headteacher/Head of School reserves the right to send home any child who presents to school with an inappropriate hairstyle, or any other aspect of appearance considered unacceptable in the school workplace.
- Parents of children who are transitioning or wish to identify with another gender, expressed through appearance, are requested to contact the Progress Lead to ensure that the school can support.

ID Cards and Lanyards
ID Cards and Lanyards
Students are provided with an ID card, a Year Group colour lanyard and a case. The ID is a swipe card for use in the canteen and can also be used to take books out from the Library. These items are part of Edmonton County School uniform and should be worn around the neck at all times that the student is on school premises.
Should students lose, break or deface these items they are expected to replace them at their own cost immediately:

If you have any questions about the ECS uniform you can contact your child’s Progress Leader. The full Uniform policy can be found here:
