Exams & Revision Advice
Exams & Revision Advice
At Edmonton County School, students sit examinations at least once per year, including public examinations (leading to GCSE, BTEC, AS and A Level qualifications) in Years 11, 12 and 13.
Public examinations can be a stressful time for students and parents, and it is important that all those involved are as well informed as possible. Well-informed students will realise that the rules and regulations are designed to ensure fairness and minimise disturbance, and that it is in the interest of all that the exams run smoothly. The school will make every effort to ensure that students receive the best possible preparation for their examinations, that the administrative arrangements run smoothly, and that the examinations are conducted in a way that will cause as little stress as possible and help students to achieve their best. End of year exams and mock exams, also known as Pre-public Exams (PPEs), run to the same standards and rules in order that students are familiar with the process beforehand.

What should students bring to examinations?
Students are responsible for ensuring that they bring everything they need to the exam.
- Students should bring writing equipment, coloured pencils, erasers, calculators etc. in a transparent plastic bag or pencil case. Non-transparent pencil boxes or cases will not be permitted in the examination room.
- Pens should be black. Some multiple-choice modular papers require the use of an HB pencil.
- Some subject papers will require the use of dictionaries or set texts, and students will be advised by their subject teachers about this.
- Students are responsible for ensuring that they bring everything they need to the exam.
What should students not bring with them?
Some items are strictly banned from exam rooms and should not be brought into exams under any circumstances, including:
- mobile phones
- (smart) watches,
- iPods, MP3/4 players, personal music / media players
- any products with potential technological/web enabled sources of information
- revision notes / guides
The Examination Boards treat mere possession of these items as an infringement, which may lead to students being disqualified from a single paper or a whole exam qualification.

Post Results Services
Service 1 (Clerical re-check) - includes the following checks: that all parts of the script have been marked; the totalling of marks; and the recording of marks.
Service 2 (Review of marking) - this is a post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly. Reviewers will not re-mark the script. They will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking.
Priority Service 2 (Review of marking) - this is the same as Review of Marking above but the review is conducted as a priority by the awarding body. This service is only available for GCE A-level qualifications
Copy of script to support review of marking - this is a priority service that ensures copies of scripts are returned in sufficient time to allow decisions to be made whether a non-priority review of marking should be applied for.
