Dear Parents/Carers,
As you will be aware, high temperatures are forecast for the next four days (Tuesday-Friday). The wellbeing and safety of all members of our school community are extremely important to us (both when in school, and when travelling to and from school). We must also ensure that disruption to learning is minimised. Therefore, the following arrangements are in place for Tuesday 23 June – Friday 26 June:
Finish times:
- All students will finish school at the end of period 3 (with Year 7&8 finishing slightly earlier)
- Therefore, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, Years 7&8 will be dismissed at 12:15pm, and Years 9, 10 and 12 dismissed at 12:25pm – this will hopefully reduce the pressure on public transport
- On Thursday, Years 7&8 will be dismissed at 11:50am, and Years 9, 10 and 12 dismissed at 12 noon
Other changes:
- The secondary canteens will not be operating a lunch sitting. Free School Meals students are advised to use their FSM allowance in the morning break.
- All after-school clubs, fixtures will be cancelled or rescheduled
- There will be no after school detentions – some of these may be rescheduled to the morning break
- Year 10 Period 6 sessions will be cancelled on these days
- The ASPIRE Centre will operate the same hours as the rest of the school
- Year 7&8 exams should not be affected.
We have also put the following measures in place to help keep students and staff cool:
- Students are allowed to wear PE kit or normal uniform without blazer and tie
- Students are encouraged to bring in a water bottle to keep hydrated., and are advised to keep in the shade during break time
- To keep classrooms as cool as possible, windows will be opened as early as possible in the day, blinds kept down, and doors kept open. To maximise airflow.
Thank you for your continued support – we will contact parents / carers should any of these arrangements change.
